As a Clinical Nurse Specialist with Vancouver Coastal Health, you will:

  • Take charge of offering guidance and oversight in the provision of nursing care and the development of organizational policies pertinent to that care.

  • Regularly assess practices and actively participate in the continuous advancement of organizational knowledge by analyzing research and creating frameworks and strategies to support the adoption of best practices.
  • Serves as a clinical leader in long-term care, geriatrics, and advanced nursing practice within this specialty by utilizing advanced practice and evidence-based research.
  • Collaborate closely with practice leaders and serve as a liaison between different hospitals and community programs to enhance the integration of care across the continuum while also reporting on nursing practice matters.
  • Offer guidance and specialized advice to team members, healthcare staff, patients, clients, and their families or significant others.

Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing; along with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • A minimum of five (5) years of recent relevant experience in a healthcare setting, specifically in Long-Term Care and geriatrics, with a demonstrated background in a progressive leadership role.
  • Certification from the Canadian Nurses Association in Geriatrics or membership in relevant provincial, national, and/or international associations is preferred, along with experience in trach and vent.

Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Collaborates effectively to establish relationships that foster the attainment of shared objectives and enhance an environment of trust and mutual respect.
  • Establishes and nurtures robust relationships with essential internal and external partners to advance and improve services offered through a trauma-informed, culturally safe approach that prioritizes equity, diversity, and Indigenous cultural safety.
  • Provides expert consultation to facilitate the effective exchange of knowledge with caregivers, patients/clients, families/significant others, the public, and colleagues.
  • Effectively delivers and carefully assesses education/orientation on intricate advanced practices and competencies to ensure that team members acquire or maintain the necessary skill levels to meet overall practice and care standards.
  • Employs advanced clinical evaluation skills to assess the needs of patients and their families or significant others.
  • In consultation with academic institutions and relevant organizations, identify and develop discipline-specific standards for teaching and education with expertise.
