This is a distinctive and thrilling opportunity to join the Forensic Intellectual and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (FIND) Community Team in South London and Maudsley (SLaM). The Forensic Service will receive specialist assessment, treatment, and consultation from the FIND Team to ensure a safe transition for inpatients discharged from the Inpatient Forensic Services to the community.
This will ensure a clinically justified, smooth, and secure pathway for individuals with mental illness, offending history, and learning disability, whether or not they have a neurodevelopmental disorder.
The three forensic agencies of SLaM, South West London and St Georges (SWLSTG), and Oxleas form the South London Mental Health and Community Partnership (SLP). The SLP’s overall objectives are to enhance patient pathways and outcomes by providing exceptional care in superior environments and bringing care closer to home.
The SLP has a history of delivering service developments that are clinically informed and highly effective, thereby better meeting the requirements of service users. The SLaM FIND Team will collaborate closely with the FIND Teams in each of the other trusts to facilitate the transition of service users from inpatient settings to community provision. The FIND provision is an example of such a development.
- To assure the systematic provision of a psychological therapy service to the FIND team and personally provide highly specialized clinical input by carrying a small caseload managed in partnership with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), coordination and development are necessary.
- To foster the growth of other staff, service users, and caregivers from a variety of backgrounds by establishing a psychologically secure environment.
- To serve as the main specialist in the FIND team, providing clinical supervision and consultation as needed.
- To guarantee the clinical and professional supervision and support of other psychological practitioners in the FIND team, it is imperative that systems are in place and functioning efficiently.
- To encourage the development of policies, research, audits, and service evaluations.
- To function as an independent professional within the guidelines and codes of conduct of the registration body while being governed by the service’s principles and policies or procedures, and to assume responsibility for interpreting policies within defined parameters.
- To determine the most effective method of achieving the desired outcomes or results in collaboration with the clinical or professional supervisor.
- Working in close collaboration with corporate psychology and psychotherapy to ensure that all staff in SLaM have access to evidence-based support and to support the coordination of staff support within their area. To engage in staff support duties as a recipient when it is appropriate.

- To assure the systematic provision of a highly specialized psychological service to the FIND team, as well as to develop and coordinate the service.
- To deliver psychological assessments, formulations, and interventions that are highly specialized in their respective fields, such as psychosis, learning disabilities, neurodevelopmental conditions, personality disorders, and offending behavior, at the level of a psychological practitioner who has completed the equivalent of a PG Diploma in post-qualification specialist development.
- When necessary, administer psychological interventions that are culturally appropriate for the families or caregivers of referred clients.
- Assess and monitor risk, and develop suitable risk management strategies.
- To offer culturally appropriate psychological or psychotherapeutic interventions to the families or caregivers of referred clients as needed.
- To inform referrers and, as appropriate, service users and their families, reports must be provided that include pertinent formulations, opinions, and interventions.
- To select and deliver evidence-based specialist therapeutic interventions, drawing from a spectrum of ideas and models, monitor outcomes, and modify and adapt interventions as necessary, based on the highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, couple, family, or group.
